Hair follicle testing is a long-term screening method that shows a chemical history of approximately 3 months. Less common than urine testing, the hair follicle tests typically take upto150 strands of hair, cut at the scalp, and measures the first inch and a half of newly grown hair. Longer hair will maintain a history beyond 3 months, but testing typically does not use anything beyond the first one and a half inches.
